A weird glitch with our website software took us offline for several days. But Ryan fixed it (yay Ryan!) and we're back on the air.

Utah's Presidential Primary -- Voter Information

The Utah Presidential Primary* will be held Tuesday, February 5, 2008 (Super Tuesday).

To find out where you can vote, visit the Salt Lake County clerk's website www.clerk.slco.org and use their voter information search tool.

New website feature: trusted users

I've created a new category of user on this site called "trusted user." Trusted users will be able to post comments immediately without waiting for the comment to be approved by a moderator. (I had to turn on the moderator feature in order to stem the tide of spam comments.)

To request trusted user status, send me a message (login first) or just post a comment here.

A note on posting comments on the D4U site

Due to the amount of spam comments we're receiving on this site, we've decided to turn on comment moderation. This means that all comments go into an approval queue and then a site administrator decides whether each comment in the queue will get published. This lets us nuke the spam comments before they appear and keep them off the site entirely. The downside is that there's a brief waiting period before your legitimate comments appear on the site. But we'll do our best to clear out the approval queue at least once a day, hopefully more often.

We genuinely appreciate everyone who reads and posts on this blog. The sitemeter shows that we have over 2,000 visitors per day — and you're one of them!

Vouchers are the beginning of the end of quality public education in Utah. You cannot ask why a patient remains sick when they keep getting band aids for medicine.

Its time for full funding for public ed, and any legislator that votes it down- should feel our wrath.

Anyway, I have started a blog that deals with philosophical political issues and want to invite everyone to come and discuss. Tell your friends!

Getting notification of new items on the D4U site

If you're registered at our website, you can get a daily e-mail with links to all the items that have been posted on the site in the last 24 hours. This is an easy way to make sure you don't miss items that aren't on the main part of the site (items like events and personal blog posts).

United States Congressman Barney Frank, (D) Mass, will be the guest speaker at a Utah Stonewall Democrats fundraiser on April 21st. The event will be held at the Museum of Fine Arts. located on the University of Utah ca pus, from 7 to 10 p.m.
Representative Frank, a Harvard graduate, was first elected to Congress in 1980. He is the ranking minority member of the House Committee on Financial Services.

I was going to write an article about the visit to Utah of the Israeli Deputy counsel, Yaron Gamburg, (and I still might) but Rob Miller, the State Democrat Party vice chair wrote a fine one on his web site: http://utahamicus.blogspot.com/

New categories on the website

I've changed the News category (in the left menu) to include over 20 subcategories. Click on News, then a subcategory to see all posts in that subcategory.

These categories are available when you create a new personal blog entry as well. Select as many subcategories as you want (in Windows, use Control-click to select additional items), but remember that you don't need to select a subcategory in each category. In most cases, one or two subcategories under the News category will do.

Posting comments and blog entries on the D4U site

I just wanted to remind everyone that all of our registered users are welcome to post their own blog entries in their personal blog (the list in the left column) as well as to add comments to the main-page posts and the personal blog entries.

To add a post to your personal blog, first make sure you're logged in to the site. (If the login box at the top right is gone, you're logged in.) Then click Create content in the top right menu and then Personal blog entry. Type in your text and click Submit. To view your whole blog, select My blog from the top right menu.
