Utah State House still allows school beatings

According to a Salt Lake Tribune article "Weird Laws Clutter the Utah Code" Utah parents can give written permission to teachers to hit their children even though none of Utah's public school do it. (Dan Harrie and Judy Fahys, January 18, 1998).

The law was passed in 1992 and says:
"A school employee may not inflict or cause the infliction of corporal punishment upon a child who is receiving services from the school, unless written permission has been given by the student's parent or guardian to do so."

You don't have my candidate listed in your poll

I would like to vote in your poll but my first choice isn't listed among those in your list. Not even an "other" selection. Nevertheless, put me down for two votes in my household for Bill Richardson. He has served as a Congressman in New Mexico for 14 years, United States Ambassador to the United Nations, and U.S. Secretary of Energy; he is presently the Governor of New Mexico. He was also chairman of the 2004 Democratic National Convention that nominated John Kerry for the presidency.

Volunteers Needed for Sandy City Mayor's Race!

Gary Forbush needs our help! He has been a stong spokesperson for the Save Our Communities referendum in Sandy City! This is an issue that Democrcy for America and D4U supports! We can help him win!

Anyone who is interested in volunteering for Gary Forbush should give him a call at 637-4622. He needs help canvassing neighborhoods, making phone calls the weekend before the election and pollwatching. He has been the spokesperson for Save our Communities and helped get the referendum on the November ballot to stop a big box type business (Walmart) from being put in the gravel pit in Sandy.
