...just like Bob Bennett's & Orrin Hatch's healthcare. Republican Senators may say they hate Government spending, but they don't mind reaping its rewards, like their wonderful healthcare plan. But the rest of us, well, they just have to spend more on Defense and less on "social programs" like healthcare, public health, etc. etc.

I forwarded the article about McCain's Social Security check to some friends and family; subject: "This should make your blood boil". This is one reply:

"No, it really doesn't. I might not agree with things the government does, but why shouldn't I (or anyone else, including McCain) get what is legally and rightfully ours? In fact, no offense, but you disagree with much of government policy, but you've accepted help which is legally and rightfully yours, right? And when I retire, I fully intend to reap the benefits of a lifetime of hard work."

This is my reply to her:

It's not about legal or rightful, but what is ethical and moral? Social Security is failing and will be bankrupt within 20 years. Does he, or anyone in similar income brackets, really need Social Security money? $23,000/year can be used to help Americans...you, me, Mom and Pop, actually survive without choosing between food or medication.

As for us; after years of working, I now get $10,000/yr in Disability benefits, Drew gets $7000. We pay premiums and co-pays for Medicaid, and those months that we can't afford to buy our Medicaid, we wind up paying for Medicare Parts B and D premiums, deductibles, co-pays and remainders. We can certainly use it, but do not get housing or cash assistance. Food Stamps average $400/mo, which doesn't go far anymore.

If people above a set income bracket would voluntarily put their unneeded SS money into a fund that can be used to assist the middle and low income, this would be a much better country. Of course, I also think that tax cuts should not be given to individuals or corporations in those same circumstances, but should be given to the middle/low income class.
